Moon Area High School Hosts the 2012 Arts and Humanities Career Symposium

5/3/2012.
Moon Area and Quaker Valley School districts hosted the 2012 Arts and Humanities Career Symposium on April 20th, 2012.  The symposium was held inside Moon Area High School and drew students from 11 different school districts within Allegheny County.

The symposium allowed high school students interested in the field of media, communications, journalism, graphic, visual, and performance arts to listen and meet with professionals in these fields.

Andrew Stockey, local News Anchor and Sports Director at WTAE, was the keynote speaker at the symposium. Other guest speakers included Tracy Certo, publisher and editor of Pop City; Christopher Farrell, Director of Administration at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh; and Keisha Lalama, Pittsburgh CLO Education director.

Also in attendance where professionals from the Pittsburgh Ballet, Steel City Media, Robert Morris University’s media and journalism departments, artists, and singers.

The symposium incorporated a telecommunications program that allowed students schools not in attendance to see the symposium live.

The symposium split the guest speakers into three panels: Media, Communications and Journalism; Graphic and Visual Arts; and Performance Arts. At the open forum, students were able to ask questions and get more information on these career fields by visiting booths set up inside the gymnasium.

There was also a drawling for an HP Tablet PC. Each student who proposed a question in writing to a panel or guest speaker got a ticket to enter.  The winner of the computer was from Montour High School.
