Accelerated Reader Program
Moon Area Schools has upgraded to the most comprehensive version of AR, Renaissance Place. We now have access to all the AR tests that are available. The link below will take you to the AR quiz store where the availability of a quiz for any title, author, reading level, and/or interest level may be found. The Accelerated Reader System provides K-12 schools with computerized learning information systems. Its reading software is used in approximately 30 percent of the schools in the United States and Canada. This program is the most popular reading software in K-12 schools.
A wide variety of books are marked with an AR Label in Bon Meade Library to indicate that they are AR books for which Bon Meade has purchased tests. The reading level and point value can be found inside the front or back of the book. Students are taught to recognize and interpret these labels. They are also instructed to use the "five finger test" to see if they can read them. This is done in the hopes that they will begin to learn to make choices appropriate for them. There are also special sections in the library, which have been designated as "Quick Pick" areas and which have multiple shelves of nothing but AR books! Now that we have upgraded to Renaissance Place, affixing labels to all our books which are AR may be some time in the works.
After selecting their book, students read the AR book and take the associated ten question test on computers in their classrooms to earn points.
