Moon Area School District became the first public school district in Allegheny County to utilize “Twitter."
The district joined the ranks of top companies like Comcast and Southwest Airlines, national news agencies and sports teams such as the Pittsburgh Penguins, who all ‘tweet’ regularly.
“Twitter” is a free, social-networking and micro-blogging service that answers the ever-present question “What are you doing?” in real-time as frequently as a user seeks to release answer the query. Messages or ‘tweets’ must be less than 140 characters and can be sent and accessed via cell phone, computer or other Web-based applications. It is the latest in the evolution of social networking sites that gained notoriety with the success of MySpace and Facebook.
